Fixing problems
Sometimes you may have an issue with your horse which you need help with.
The first step would be to find out as much as you can about the issue. Visit our lessons section and our noticeboard and see if there is anything written about it there. If there isn’t add in your own question.
Google the issue, and find out what can cause thus type of behaviour and other solutions people have come up with.
It may be necessary to get help from an experienced horse trainer who can visit you, assess the issue, find out the cause and then both of you can come up a plan of how to address the issue. The most important part of all of this is diagnosing the issue.
For example, say your horse bucks. You’re a bit fed up of this because you keeping falling off, and you’d like him to stop bucking. You know the symptom, but you don’t know the cause and so you have no information to build a solution upon.
Imagine you researched this, found out that back problems are quite commonly caused by back issues or badly fitting tack, and found out that your horse does indeed have a sore back due to the saddle pinching him. Then you’ve got the cause identified, so once you change your saddle to one that fits and eliminate the cause, giving your horse time to heal, you should have no more bucking.
Find the cause of the problem, and you’re already on the way to fixing it.
Generally a fair few issues would be due to pain / tack / teeth, etc. Some issues are also due to training issues, and then some can be both pain and training issues.
The Irish Horsemanship approved trainers are equipped to help you identify the cause of problems, and if training related, help you come up with a plan to solve them.
If you’ve any general queries, or want to learn more, you can email the office and if we can help we will.
Also, it is always a good idea to pop up to a funday in Limerick. There are a lot of good and friendly horsey people who come to this so you’d have a lot of minds to pick who might be able to give you some ideas as well. The food is also quite good….
